Words--Reading

And now a list of words that Noah recognizes in print (as of March 2004 - aged 2½).

Noah has known his alphabet since early March of 2003 at the latest.  We saw a chart in the doctor's office that says by the age of four (or five) a child can recognize his or her own name in print.  Well, I don't know about that.

Noah's been able to recognize his name in print for many months now (I've had no question about that since one night that I performed a simple test with him--that's the date I used below).  Recently, at Grandma Gibson's suggestion, we've started adding more words and he's been soaking them up.  Now, a list.

I've discontinued keeping this list since it has become an impossible chore.  He is speaking now (some, anyway) and his reading continues to grow by leaps and bounds.  For example, as I write this in late August of 2004, he is very much into keeping track of the day of the week, both by means of a calendar I made on a whiteboard and refrigerator magnets.  And he can read each day of the week.

[Addendum: 2/28/05] He is well and truly able to read many things. For instance, he can read entire paragraphs in My Book of Bible Stories with very little assistance.
